Marjean Purinton, Professor at Texas Tech University, specializes in British Romantic Literature, with expertise in feminist theory, Gothic drama, and pedagogy. She authored Romantic Ideology Unmasked and the forthcoming Staging Grotesques and Ghosts, and has published extensively on Romantic women playwrights, techno-gothic themes, and science-literature intersections. A Teaching Academy member and recipient of the President's Excellence in Teaching Award, she contributes to academic discourse as the Teaching Section Editor for British Women Playwrights Around 1800 and past President of the International Conference on Romanticism.

Her research explores British Romantic drama, focusing on gender performance, techno-gothic aesthetics, and scientific discourse in literature. She examines how Romantic playwrights like Joanna Baillie and Hannah More engaged with medicalization, nationalism, and feminist pedagogy, often bridging 18th-19th century women writers with modern critical frameworks.
Recent publications address Frankenstein's cultural reception, time symbolism in Romantic comedy, and gendered theatrical practices. Themes include science-literature interfaces, feminist utopianism, and cross-dressing as subversion in Romantic-era plays.
