David Smith is an Assistant Professor of English at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) since 2023. Previously, he taught at Baylor University, University of Central Oklahoma, and Creighton University. He holds a PhD in British Literature with a focus on Romanticism from Baylor University (2017), along with MA and BA degrees in English from Truman State University. His research explores intersections between Romanticism, Gothic literature, and modern media, with particular emphasis on William Blake, Gothic narratives, and pedagogical innovation.

Research Interests:
Smith’s work examines Gothic traditions, Romantic-era aesthetics, and the digital humanities. He investigates how technologies (e.g., Victorian phonographs, modern video games) influence narrative structures. His scholarship bridges classical texts with contemporary media, as seen in analyses of Blake’s subversive techniques and Tolkien’s Romantic influences. He also pioneers interactive teaching methods using board games to engage students with Gothic literature.
