Diego Saglia is Full Professor of English Literature at the University of Parma's Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Enterprises since 1998, and has served as Department Head since 2017. With a PhD from Cardiff University, he previously held positions at Cardiff and the University of Bath before settling in Parma.
His research focuses on British Romanticism (1780-1830), particularly exoticism/orientalism, Gothic studies, national/gender identity, and Romantic drama. He has extensively analyzed canonical figures like Byron, Austen, and Scott, alongside less studied writers such as Felicia Hemans, with particular attention to Anglo-Hispanic cultural exchange and the construction of 'Romantic Spain' in British literature.
Recent publications explore transnational Romanticism, theatrical border-crossing, and Gothic materiality. His 2025 works examine Neo-Renaissance drama, Scott's Mediterranean themes, and Austen-Woolf intertextuality. Awards include two Elma Dangerfield Prizes (2012, 2018) for Byron-related scholarship.
Active in academic leadership, Saglia co-organizes international conferences like the 2019 'Rooting Eco-Criticism' workshop, chairs the Parma unit of the Interuniversity Center for Romantic Studies (CISR), and participates in steering committees for 'Anglo-Hispanic Horizons' and 'Project Reve'. He contributes to editorial boards of journals like Victoriographies and Parole rubate.
