Marius Ghincea

Dr. Marius Ghincea is a Lecturer at the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences at ETH Zurich, concurrently serving as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the European Politics Research Group under the ERC-funded project 'Rebordering Europe.' His roles include co-leading the Quartet Institute (Bucharest) and holding a Visiting Fellowship at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies (EUI, Florence).

Dr. Ghincea's education includes a Ph.D. from the European University Institute (2024), focusing on domestic politics and foreign policy consensus-building. He also holds degrees from the University of Bucharest and completed Fulbright coursework at the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy (George Washington University). His teaching expertise spans international relations, security policy, comparative politics, and qualitative research methods.

His research investigates the geopolitics of European integration, great power competition's impact on EU border dynamics, and domestic influences on foreign policy. Recent work explores the Western Balkans' integration challenges, China's regional influence in CEE, and post-pandemic governance resilience. His articles highlight themes of EU enlargement policy, military aid secrecy, and the interplay between national identity and foreign strategy.

Dr. Ghincea has held visiting roles at the Hertie School (Berlin), Freie Universität Berlin's SCRIPTS Cluster, and St. Anthony's College (Oxford). He has contributed to policy debates on Romania's foreign policy recalibration and the Black Sea region's security architecture.
