Mario Zappia is a Full Professor of Neurology at the University of Catania, where he has been a leading figure since 2005. He is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of General Surgery and Medical-Surgical Specialties. He serves as Director of the Complex Unit 'Neurology Clinic' at the University Hospital 'Policlinico-Vittorio Emanuele' and leads the Department of Neurological Sciences and Neurobiology Research at AOU. His academic career began at the University of Catanzaro, where he served as a University Researcher and later Associate Professor.
His research focuses on clinical neurology and the genetics of neurodegenerative diseases, with particular emphasis on Parkinson's disease, movement disorders, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and peripheral neuropathies. His work bridges clinical practice and translational research, contributing significantly to diagnostics and therapeutic development in neurology.
