Marilyn Mims serves as Artist in Residence in Vocal Music at Palm Beach Atlantic University's College of the Arts within the Music Department. She joined the institution in 2004 after retiring from her full-time professional opera career to focus on teaching and family.

Mims specializes in vocal performance and opera interpretation with particular expertise in coloratura soprano repertoire. Her teaching focuses on developing technical proficiency while maintaining artistic expression, drawing from her extensive professional experience performing major roles across five continents. She directs the Opera Workshop program, producing productions including Gianni Schicchi, Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Hansel and Gretel that provide students with practical stage experience.

Mims has cultivated a successful mentoring program with students performing at the New York City Opera and Metropolitan Opera. Her former students have been accepted to prestigious graduate programs including Juilliard. She actively contributes to the vocal community as a judge, master class clinician, and currently serves as a master teacher for Intermezzo Opera. In 2008, she presented a Master Class at the Classical Singer Convention in New York City.
As a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the National Opera Association, Mims remains deeply engaged with professional music organizations. She and her family participate in the music program at Royal Poinciana Chapel in Palm Beach, maintaining active involvement in local musical life beyond the university setting.
