Sari Gruber is a Special Faculty in Voice at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music, combining an active international performing career with extensive pedagogical work. A celebrated soprano, she has performed with leading opera companies including Lyric Opera of Chicago, New York City Opera, and Pittsburgh Opera, noted for roles such as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) and Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel). Her vocal artistry earned her top honors at the Naumburg Competition and recognition in prestigious festivals.
Education includes a B.A. from Yale University and a Master of Music from The Juilliard School, with further training at Tanglewood and Ravinia’s Steans Institute. She maintains a private studio and teaches at Carnegie Mellon and Point Park University, guiding students to major opera companies and Broadway. Notable student achievements include roles at the Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and Broadway productions.
Her awards include grants from the Tucker Foundation and Richard F. Gold, alongside the Louis Sudler Prize. Gruber is a founding member of the Pittsburgh Song Collaborative and serves on New York Festival of Song’s Artists Council. Her teaching spans classical and musical theater techniques, emphasizing collaborative performance and art song literature.
