Marie Jarriel Roberts serves as Senior Lecturer in Voice at Mercer University's Townsend School of Music, where she has taught for 23 years following her 1984 Mercer University graduation. A lyric soprano with over 25 years of performing experience, she has appeared in choral works, orchestral performances, and classical recitals throughout the southeastern United States.
Her educational background includes a BA in Music from Mercer University (1984) and a Master of Church Music in Voice from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (1989), where she studied under Jay W. Wilkey and later with Virginia Zeani. Roberts employs a classical bel canto technique that has produced competition-winning students who performed in masterclasses with Sylvia McNair, Frederica von Stade, and David Daniels.
Roberts received early career recognition through Metropolitan Opera National Auditions Council awards at both district and regional levels. Her stage repertoire includes Spirit in Mozart's Die Schuldigkeit, roles in Debussy's L'Enfant Prodigue and Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and a celebrated portrayal of Mother in Menotti's Amahl and the Night Visitors with Mercer University Opera.
Prior to Mercer, she taught at Indiana University Southeast, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Bellarmine College, Georgia College and State University, and Macon State College. A native of Dublin, Georgia, she is married to conductor Stanley L. Roberts.
