Marilena Koppa is a Professor of Comparative Politics at the Department of European, International and Area Studies of Panteion University. Her research focuses on minority issues, democratization, nationalism, and European politics, with a regional emphasis on South-eastern Europe and the Balkans.
She studied Law in Athens and earned her PhD in Comparative Politics from Paris–X Nanterre University in 1991. She has held significant roles including special adviser to Greece's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on European integration and a Member of the European Parliament from 2007 to 2014, where she contributed to committees on Foreign Affairs, International Trade, and Human Rights.
Koppa has authored three books on Balkan politics and states, including A Fragile Democracy (1994) and CSDP: the history, the institutions, the strategies (2017). Her work combines comparative approaches with policy analysis on European security and enlargement.
