Dr Spyros Economides is an Associate Professor in International Relations and European Politics at the European Institute, London School of Economics (LSE). He serves as Research Coordinator for the Hellenic Observatory's Politics & Geopolitics cluster. Previously, he held roles at King's College London, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and visiting positions at Dartmouth College, Universities of Zagreb and Belgrade, and Singapore's EU Centre.
His research focuses on European foreign and security policies, the Western Balkans, and Greek foreign policy. Key themes include the evolving concept of 'the West,' EU enlargement dynamics, and the EU's engagement with the Balkans. His work frequently examines Europeanisation processes and their impact on state foreign policies.
Notable publications include analyses of EU parliamentary debates on enlargement, the role of member states in European foreign policy, and studies on Kosovo and Greece's geopolitical positioning. His research has been published in leading journals like JCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies and edited volumes on EU security strategies.
Dr Economides is a frequent commentator in international media on Greek and Balkan affairs. His expertise spans topics such as EU-Western Balkans relations, Greek leadership in foreign policy, and the geopolitical implications of contemporary crises.
