Maria Wiczyńska

Maria Wiczyńska is a dedicated music educator and accomplished violist at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, where she has served on the faculty since 1985. She is affiliated with Faculty II – Instrumental, specializing in string instruments pedagogy and orchestral training.

Wiczyńska graduated from the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk in 1978, studying under Professor Jan Paruzel, after completing her primary and secondary music education in Bydgoszcz. Her academic journey reflects the traditional Polish music education system that emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical performance skills.

As a performer-educator, Wiczyńska's expertise centers on viola performance techniques, orchestral repertoire, and specialized literature for string instruments. Her teaching philosophy integrates decades of professional performance experience with pedagogical methods tailored to developing musicians. She has significantly contributed to music education through her long-standing commitment to nurturing generations of string players and orchestral musicians.

Throughout her 35-year teaching career, Wiczyńska has educated 30 Master of Arts graduates, supervised 5 bachelor's theses and 35 master's theses, while also reviewing approximately 50 additional master's theses. Her mentorship extends beyond the classroom through performance opportunities and professional guidance for emerging musicians.

Wiczyńska maintains strong connections with professional music ensembles, having led the viola section of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra in Gdańsk since 1980 and previously performing with the Gdańsk Oboe Quartet until 2008. These professional engagements provide valuable real-world context for her teaching and create performance opportunities for her students.
