Maria Lind is a Professor and Faculty at Large at the School of Visual Arts (SVA), New York, where she teaches in the MA Curatorial Practice program. She holds extensive leadership experience, including directorships at institutions such as Konstmuseet i Norr (Kiruna, Sweden), Stockholm’s Tensta konsthall, and the 11th Gwangju Biennale. Lind has also directed programs at the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, and Iaspis in Stockholm. Her career spans over three decades, blending curatorial practice, academic teaching, and cultural diplomacy.
Her research interests focus on curatorial theory, contemporary art, and cultural policy, with a particular emphasis on exhibition design and artistic research. Lind has curated major international exhibitions, including Future Light for the Vienna Biennial (2015) and the Art Encounters Biennial in Timisoara (2019). She has contributed extensively to art publications, analyzing global art trends and curatorial strategies.
Lind was awarded the Walter Hopps Award for Curatorial Achievement in 2009. Her publications include Selected Maria Lind Writings (2010) and Seven Years: The Rematerialization Art from 2011 to 2017 (2019). She has maintained affiliations with institutions such as the Swedish Embassy in Moscow and the Kunstverein München, reflecting her role in cultural diplomacy and international art networks.
