Maria Kakavas is a Lecturer in the Department of Classical Studies at Boston College, part of the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. from Boston University, an M.A. from Boston College, and a B.A. from Athens University. Her teaching focuses on advanced Greek language courses including Intermediate Greek and New Testament Greek.

Research Interests
Dr. Kakavas specializes in translation theory, gender linguistics in Aristophanes and Euripides, theater as a language-learning tool, and comparative studies between Greek and Latin. Her work bridges classical philology with modern pedagogical practices, particularly exploring how theater performances enhance language acquisition. She has contributed to Hellenic studies through invited participation in the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation Conference (2005) and co-authored works like The Unknown Soldier (2021).

Her recent publications include analyses of ancient texts like Petronius’ Satyricon and Euripides’ Medea, examining themes such as nostalgia, gender roles, and linguistic differences.
