Andreas Fountoulakis is a Professor at the University of Crete, Department of Philology. His research spans Ancient Greek Drama, Hellenistic Poetry, and the Reception of Antiquity in Modern Literature and Drama, with a focus on cultural and gender studies.

His work explores violence in Greek tragedy, theatricality, and gender roles in Hellenistic texts. He analyzes Menander's comedies for social values and plot construction, investigates dreams and ritual in Hellenistic poetry, and examines intersections between myth, religion, and performance in Euripides and beyond.
Key themes in his recent publications include color symbolism in Bion’s Epitaph, erotic rhetoric in Menander, and metatheatrical elements in Aristophanes. His conference contributions address educational applications of theater, cultural memory, and cross-cultural dissemination of Greek drama.
