Maria Carla Di Paolo

Maria Carla Di Paolo is a Professor of Gastroenterology at the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma (UniCamillus) and a practicing Gastroenterologist. She leads the 'Reference Center for Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases and Celiac Disease' at Rome’s San Giovanni Hospital since 2018. Her academic and clinical career includes roles as President of the Lazio Region Section of the Italian Association of Hospital Gastroenterologists and Endoscopists (AIGO) from 2019–2021, and since 2022, she serves as National Coordinator of the IBD Commission under AIGO. She has been actively involved in public health initiatives, including a landmark celiac disease screening program for 2,000 schoolchildren during her Rotary presidency (2012–2013).

Education: She earned her MD cum laude in Medicine and Surgery from Sapienza University of Rome in 1987, followed by specialization in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy in 1983, and a PhD in Gastroenterological Sciences from Sapienza in 1993.

Professional Contributions: She has held leadership roles in regional and national medical organizations, including membership in Lazio Region’s Technical Table for Celiac Disease (2015–2020). Her clinical focus spans inflammatory bowel disease management, celiac disease research, and advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy techniques. She frequently speaks at national medical congresses and directs clinical initiatives.
