Maria Careri is a Full Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental Sustainability, University of Parma (2001–present). Her career spans over three decades, including roles as Associate Professor (1998–2001) and Researcher (1992–1998). She leads multidisciplinary laboratories like COMP-R and COMP-HUB under the “Department of Excellence MIUR” initiative and coordinates international projects such as METROFOOD-RI.
- PhD in Chemistry (University of Parma, 1991)
- Specialist in Food Chemistry and Technology (1989)
- Chemistry “summa cum laude” (1987)
Her research focuses on:
- High-resolution mass spectrometry for food traceability and safety
- Novel nanomaterials for miniaturized extraction and DESI/MALDI-MS
- Smart IoT electrochemical biosensors for medical diagnostics
- Artificial sensing systems (electronic nose/tongue) with chemometrics
- Environmental nanoparticle detection via SEM/ESEM techniques
Her recent publications emphasize analytical innovation in food safety, biosensing, and environmental monitoring. Awards include the 2023 Alessandro Mangia and Giovanni Canneri medals, and the 2018 Arnaldo Liberti Award. She has secured major grants from MIUR, H2020, and PNRR, including METROFOOD-PP and European Partnership on Metrology projects.
Careri mentors students in degree and PhD programs and chairs editorial boards for journals like Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry. She has directed the Master Course Laboratory Quality System (2001–2011) and collaborates with institutions like ENEA and Accredia.
