معرفی
Professor Margaret MacLean is a Visiting Professor at the University of Glasgow's School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health. Her research focuses on pulmonary hypertension, particularly investigating hormonal and molecular mechanisms such as estrogen metabolism, serotonin signaling pathways, and microRNA regulation. She explores how these factors influence disease progression and sex-based differences in cardiovascular conditions.
Her work emphasizes the interplay between estrogen, oxidative stress, and vascular remodeling in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Recent studies include the role of Ang-(1-7)/ET-1 receptor interactions in vasoprotection, obesity-driven estrogen dysregulation, and the therapeutic potential of metformin via aromatase inhibition. She has authored over 60 publications, contributing to leading journals such as Hypertension and European Respiratory Journal.
MacLean collaborates with researchers like Rhian Touyz and Nicholas Morrell on projects analyzing sex-specific microRNA axes and serotonin pathways. She has co-edited textbook chapters on vascular medicine and presented at international conferences, including the Grover Conference Series. Her work bridges basic science and clinical applications, aiming to identify novel therapeutic targets for PAH.
