Dr Yvonne Dempsie is an Honorary Research Associate at Glasgow Caledonian University's School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health. Her research focuses on pulmonary hypertension, particularly exploring molecular mechanisms such as serotonin signaling pathways, microRNA regulation, and gender-specific influences in disease progression. Collaborating with colleagues like Margaret R. MacLean and Ian Morecroft, she investigates therapeutic targets and pathophysiological processes in conditions like pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
Her work combines experimental models (e.g., transgenic mice) with clinical insights, analyzing how environmental factors (e.g., chronic hypoxia), drugs (e.g., dexfenfluramine), and hormonal interactions (e.g., estrogen metabolism) contribute to disease onset and progression. Key contributions include studies on microRNA roles in endothelial apoptosis, serotonin transporter function, and the impact of sex differences on PAH development.
Dempsie has published extensively in high-impact journals such as Hypertension, Cardiovascular Research, and Circulation Research. Her research bridges basic science and clinical applications, aiming to identify novel therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular disorders.
