Professor Rhian Touyz is a Visiting Professor in the School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health at the University of Glasgow, affiliated with the BHF Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre. Her research focuses on hypertension, vascular biology, and post-COVID-19 vascular effects. She leads studies like the LOCHINVAR project investigating long-term cardiovascular impacts of SARS-CoV-2. Her work explores oxidative stress mechanisms, endothelial dysfunction, and therapeutic targets for cardiovascular diseases. Key contributions include publications on VEGF inhibitor cardiotoxicity, angiotensin signaling, and genetic syndromes like Kenny-Caffey syndrome. She collaborates internationally on guidelines and vascular medicine textbooks.
Research interests span hypertension pathophysiology, diabetes complications, and cardio-oncology. Recent work addresses post-COVID-19 vascular inflammation and socioeconomic disparities in health outcomes. She has authored over 600 publications, with recent studies on exosome roles in cardiovascular health, renoprotective pathways in diabetes, and mental health trajectories post-COVID-19.
Labs/Teams: BHF Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre, Institute of Cardiovascular & Medical Sciences. Collaborations include global studies on hypertension management and vascular aging.
