Dr Margaret Hutchison is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of New South Wales (UNSW). Her research focuses on the policies and practices of care for Australian veterans, cultural legacies of war, and the history of veteran suicide in Australia. She earned a PhD in History from the Australian National University and has held academic roles at institutions like Australian Catholic University and the Australian War Memorial.
Her notable works include the book Painting War: A history of Australia's First World War art scheme (Cambridge University Press, 2019) and co-editorial roles in Portraits of Remembrance: Painting, Memory, and the First World War (2020) and Exiting War: The British Empire and the 1918–20 Moment (2022). She currently leads an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project on the social and historical dimensions of veteran suicide.
