Jayne Persian is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Southern Queensland's School of Humanities and Communication, specializing in Central and Eastern European displaced persons' migration to Australia post-World War II. She holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (2011). Her research focuses on Cold War anti-communism, migration policies, and historical memory, with notable works including Fascists in Exile (2023) and Beautiful Balts (2017).
Research & Grants: Co-Chief Investigator on ARC-funded projects: "Russian Immigrants and Anti-Communism in Cold War Australia, 1946-1966" (2022-25) and "Displacement and Resettlement" (2016-19). Active in the Australian Migration History Network and Australasian Association for European History.
Awards: Shortlisted for the W.K. Hancock Prize (2018), Prime Minister's Literary Award (2018), and Queensland History Book Award (2018).
Teaching: Courses include Australian History, WWII studies, and Public History. Her work bridges transnational migration, oral history, and ethical accountability in historical narratives. She co-founded the Australian Migration History Network and contributes to public discourse via The Conversation.
