Marcus Utterström is an Associate Senior Lecturer at the Department of Law, Lund University, and a Researcher at the Lund University Centre for Business Law (ACLU). He is also a member of the LTH Profile Area: Circular Building Sector. His research focuses on contract law, construction contracts, and legal aspects of circularity in the building sector, with additional work on material assignment agreements. He teaches in the Swedish professional law degree program and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to responsible consumption and production (SDG 12) and climate action (SDG 13).
His research has explored topics such as dispute resolution mechanisms in construction projects, municipal challenges in transitioning to a circular economy, and legal frameworks for sustainable land use. Utterström has received grants and awards from institutions like the Institute of Legal Research and the Birger Ekebergs Foundation. His work often bridges legal theory and practical implementation, emphasizing the role of law in enabling sustainable development.
Utterström collaborates on projects such as the Excellence Programme for Sustainable Development (2021–2027) and Research to Enable a Circular Building Sector (2022–2024). He actively participates in academic activities, including organizing the Nordic Conference on Construction Law and delivering invited lectures on topics like 'Totalentreprenadavtal' and climate impact thresholds in the construction sector.
