Marcia Ilha is an Associate Professor of Anatomic Pathology in the Department of Pathology at the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine. She is affiliated with the Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories (GVDL) and the Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory (TVDIL). Dr. Ilha holds a DVM (1999) and MSc (2001) from the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil, and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (DACVP, 2009).
Her research focuses on diagnostic pathology of domestic animals, with emphasis on infectious diseases, tumor pathology, and diagnostic methodologies. Key areas include mast cell tumors in dogs, hepatic fibrosis mechanisms, and zoonotic pathogens in wildlife. She has contributed to over 40 peer-reviewed articles, spanning topics like canine gliomas, equine pathogen detection, and amoebiasis in kangaroos.
Dr. Ilha’s work bridges clinical diagnostics and research, particularly in veterinary pathology and comparative medicine. Her publications reflect a strong emphasis on translational research, linking molecular mechanisms to clinical outcomes in animals. She collaborates with institutions globally, advancing diagnostic standards in veterinary medicine.
