Hemant Naikare is a tenured Professor and Director of the Tifton Veterinary Diagnostic and Investigational Laboratory (TVDIL) at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine. He specializes in diagnostic microbiology, with a focus on infectious diseases of livestock, companion animals, and zoonotic pathogens. His lab, part of the Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories, operates with a $3.5M annual budget and 40 staff members, providing full-service diagnostic capabilities across animal species.
Dr. Naikare’s research emphasizes novel diagnostic platforms for rapid microbial detection, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, and disease ecology. Key projects include USDA-funded initiatives to enhance diagnostics for African Swine Fever (ASF), Classical Swine Fever (CSF), and avian influenza. He has held roles such as Section Head of Bacteriology at Texas A&M’s Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory and serves on editorial boards (e.g., Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation) and NIH grant review panels.
