Marc Del Bigio is a Professor in the Department of Pathology at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba. He is a clinical neuropathologist at Health Sciences Centre Winnipeg and a research scientist at the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM), with expertise in pediatric and forensic neuropathology.
His research focuses on the pathogenesis of brain diseases in children, including hydrocephalus, brain injury due to prematurity or birth, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, solvent abuse, metabolic and genetic disorders, and forensic neuropathology. He utilizes human autopsy studies, animal models, immunohistochemistry, light and electron microscopy, and biochemical assays.

Dr. Del Bigio has received numerous awards for research and mentorship, including Fellowship in the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences and the Royal College’s Mentor of the Year award. He has held leadership roles in national and international neuropathology societies and currently serves as Vice President of the International Society of Neuropathology and senior associate editor of Brain Pathology.

Dr. Del Bigio is affiliated with the Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (CHRIM), where he leads neuropathology-related research initiatives and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams focused on child brain health.
