معرفی
Maike Behrendt is a Researcher and PhD candidate at the Department of Computer Science, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, serving as a research associate since January 2021. She is a core member of the Manchot research group's "Use Case Policy" project (UPEKI), developing AI systems to support political decision-making through analysis of online discourse.
Her academic foundation includes:
- Bachelor of Science in Business Informatics from the University of Cologne (2015), completed at the Chair of Integrated Information Systems
- Master of Science in Computer Science from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (January 2021), with thesis "Measuring the Similarity of Arguments With BERT" exploring BERT model variants for argument comparison
Her research pioneers Natural Language Processing applications for digital discussion platforms, focusing on argument structure analysis, political discourse modeling, and transformer-based similarity metrics. Current doctoral work on "Natural Language Processing for Discussion Platforms" develops AI tools to systematize online debates for democratic processes, leveraging transformer architectures to map argument relationships in political contexts.
Behrendt actively supervises student theses in NLP and argumentation mining, maintaining an open invitation for prospective Bachelor's and Master's candidates through university channels. She operates within the interdisciplinary Manchot research ecosystem under Prof. Dr. Marc Ziegele's oversight, continuing collaboration with the Chair of Machine Learning despite Prof. Harmeling's transition to TU Dortmund.
