Jonas Carstens is a Researcher at the Chair of Practical Philosophy within the Faculty of Philosophy at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. Since January 2022, he has been part of the Manchot Research Group "Decision-Making with the Help of Artificial Intelligence Methods" under the Legal Use Case.

His research focuses on philosophical concepts of discrimination, particularly their applicability to artificial intelligence. He explores ethical aspects of AI-supported online deliberation and the interaction between AI applications and social power structures. As a member of the Düsseldorf Institute for Internet Democracy (DIID), he contributes to interdisciplinary projects addressing AI ethics.
His recent publications examine the ethical implications of AI in online discussions and epistocratic models of democracy. He also led a teaching project on AI ethics in 2023-2024.
