Svenja Behrendt is a legal scholar specializing in public law, fundamental rights, and the legal implications of digitalization, datafication, and climate change. She currently holds the Junior Professorship for Public Law since February 2024 and is a Senior Researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law (MPI-CSL) in the Department of Public Law. Her interdisciplinary research bridges legal theory, constitutional law, security law, and democratic governance.

Her research explores the intersection of democracy, autonomy, and emerging technologies (AI, datafication) while addressing foundational questions in public law. Recent work includes a 2024 publication on intertemporal protection of fundamental rights in climate-related legal contexts. She actively engages in public discourse through podcasts and anthologies, such as discussing triage decisions in pandemics and the "Digitalization of Law."
