Madeline Andrews is an Assistant Professor in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU). Her research focuses on human brain development and neurological disorders using neural organoids, transplantation models, and omics approaches. She leads the Andrews Lab, an interdisciplinary team collaborating with institutions like Barrow Neurological Institute and Mayo Clinic.
Dr. Andrews holds a PhD in Neuroscience from UCLA (2017), a BS in Psychology from ASU (2010), and completed postdoctoral training at UCSF under Dr. Arnold Kriegstein. Her work integrates stem cell biology, bioengineering, and bioinformatics to study cortical cell type trajectories and disease mechanisms.
Research interests include neurodevelopmental disorders, organoid modeling, and metabolic regulation in neural development. Recent work explores glucose metabolism in radial glial biology and astroglial roles in neurodegeneration. The lab’s collaborative environment emphasizes interdisciplinary innovation and translational potential.
Teaching responsibilities include directing honors theses and special topics in biomedical engineering. Her lab’s website is https://labs.engineering.asu.edu/AndrewsLab/, and her Google Scholar profile is available at Google Scholar.
