Luisa Cimmino is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine. She is affiliated with the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC) and the Cell and Molecular Stress Responses (CMSR) program.
- Primary Appointment: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
- Committee Roles: Cancer Biology Steering Committee (SCCC), CMSR Faculty Advisory Committee, PIBS Graduate Program Committee
Education & Training
- BSc (Honors), University of Melbourne (1998)
- MA & PhD, Columbia University (2002, 2007)

Research Focus
The Cimmino Lab investigates how environmental factors (micronutrients, metabolites) influence epigenetic enzyme activity in hematopoietic stem cells and leukemia progression. Key areas include:
- Epigenetic regulation of oncogenic pathways
- Nutrient-dependent chromatin modifications
- Therapeutic targeting of epigenetic dysregulation
- Role of social adversity in cancer epigenetics
- Non-coding RNA dynamics in development
Scientific Awards
- Boomerang Fellowship (2018)
- Lorne Cancer Conference Travel Award (2018)
- St. Baldrick’s Scholar Career Development Award
Publications & Professional Activities
Her recent peer-reviewed works explore B12-serum associations with clonal hematopoiesis, microRNA-29a in T-cell exhaustion, and social adversity's epigenetic impact on breast cancer. She serves on editorial boards and grant review panels, including the Florida Academic Cancer Center Alliance.
