Dr. Luis Tedeschi is a Professor in the Department of Animal Science at Texas A&M University and a member of Texas A&M AgriLife Research. He holds an adjunct position in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science. His expertise spans animal nutrition, mathematical modeling (particularly System Dynamics), and sustainable livestock production. Tedeschi earned his B.S. (1991), M.S. (1996) from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, and Ph.D. (2001) from Cornell University. He joined Texas A&M in 2005 after postdoctoral work at Cornell.
His research focuses on integrating ruminant nutrition knowledge via modeling to address environmental and resource challenges. Key areas include energy/nutrient requirements, growth bioenergetics, feed fermentation kinetics, and decision support systems like the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System (CNCPS) and Cattle Value Discovery System (CVDS). He emphasizes sustainability through efficient production systems and has developed satellite-based tools for pasture management.
Tedeschi has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles and actively contributes to the National Animal Nutrition Program (NANP). His awards include the McMaster Fellowship (2011) and a Fulbright Scholarship (2013). He teaches courses on ruminant nutrition, precision diet formulation, and comparative ruminant production.
His work bridges academia and industry, with applications in computer vision for livestock monitoring and climate-smart feedyard practices. Tedeschi’s labs and collaborations drive innovations in precision livestock farming, methane emission reduction, and data-driven decision tools for global agriculture.
