Andre Brito is a Professor and Graduate Program Coordinator in the Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Food Systems at the University of New Hampshire's College of Life Sciences and Agriculture. His research focuses on optimizing dairy cow nutrition to enhance nitrogen utilization, improve forage carbohydrate content, and maximize pasture nutrient efficiency. He holds a Ph.D. in Dairy Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, alongside a D.V.M. and M.S. from the Federal University of Minas Gerais.
Dr. Brito's research emphasizes balancing rumen-degradable protein and fermentable energy to boost microbial protein synthesis while reducing nitrogen waste. He teaches courses including ANSC 421: Intro to Animal Science and ANSC 708: Ruminant Nutrition Physiology, and has advised doctoral research projects. His work spans dietary supplements like seaweed and flaxseed, forage management strategies, and methane emission mitigation in dairy systems.
Recent publications explore kelp meal supplementation effects on milk iodine, rumen microbiota dynamics, and alternative feed sources for sustainable dairy production. He collaborates with institutions like the USDA-ARS to advance livestock nutrition and environmental stewardship.
