Lucy Orta

Professor Lucy Orta holds the Chair of Art and the Environment at London College of Fashion, investigating relationships between individual bodies and community structures through participatory art practices. Her work spans sculpture, performance, and textile interventions addressing migration, sustainability, and social resilience.

Current projects include AHRC-funded 'Decolonising Fashion and Textiles' with refugee communities and 'Traces: Stories of Migration' documenting textile heritage in East London. Founded the Art for the Environment Residency Programme and led major installations like 'Antarctica World Passport' examining climate migration.

Monographs include 'Food and the Public Sphere' and 'Lucy + Jorge Orta' (Phaidon). Exhibited internationally at venues including Pompidou Metz, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and Shanghai Biennale. Supervises PhD candidates researching craft practices and cultural sustainability.
