Lucie Hernandez is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Royal College of Art (RCA), affiliated with the Materials Science Research Centre (MSRC). She focuses on developing digital tools to promote sustainable practices in fashion and textiles, emphasizing craft, materials, and repair skills. Her work addresses environmental sustainability and human well-being through innovative approaches to product lifecycle management.
Her research includes the Touchcraft project (2018), funded by EU Horizon 2020, which co-developed ethical wearable technologies and e-textiles. Later projects like Repair Generations (2021-22) foster community-driven clothing repair workshops. Lucie’s expertise spans consumer experience design for circular economies and dematerialization strategies.
Publications include studies on e-textile frameworks (2022), social sustainability in craft communities (2019), and tactile textile interfaces (2018-2019). She has received research funding from WEAR Sustain, the 3D3 Centre for Doctoral Training (AHRC), and the Cornwall Climate Challenge.
Lucie collaborates with institutions like Falmouth University and leads interdisciplinary initiatives such as the Repair Generations collective. Her work bridges material science, digital innovation, and social practice to advance sustainable design solutions.
