Isaac Couch

Isaac Couch is a Lecturer in the Fashion Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). He holds a Bachelor's in Merchandising Apparel and Textiles from the University of Kentucky (2019) and a Master of Design from SAIC (2021). His work explores themes of identity, cultural critique, and material reconstruction through fashion, often employing destructive and transformative techniques on textiles and sculptural materials.

His research interests focus on the intersection of labor traditions, haute couture, and personal identity. Using materials like plaster, cotton, and unconventional textiles, he interrogates societal violence and reconstructs garments as commentary on imposed identities and environments.

Exhibitions: Recent shows include UNDEAD (Epiphany Center of the Arts, 2024), PROVE ME WRONG (Co-Prosperity Sphere, 2023), and works displayed at the Comfort Station and Lexington Art League. His practice bridges art and fashion through immersive installations and wearable sculptures.

• Teaching: Teaches Introduction to Fashion, Body, and Garment across multiple sections in 2025.

Recipient of prestigious grants including the DCASE Individual Artist Grant (2023) and residencies with the Chicago Artist Coalition and Cliff Dwellers (2024–2026).
