Bambi Deidre Breakstone is an Adjunct Professor of Fashion Design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She relocated to Chicago in 2004 after a career in Los Angeles as a costume designer for television, film, and music including work on Miami Vice, The Ellen Show, and Dolly Parton's tours and album covers. A signature costume she designed for Dolly Parton is housed in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Her teaching focuses on interdisciplinary fashion design, costume design for film/TV, and garment construction. She concurrently maintains an active art practice producing artist books, collages, sculptures, and photo-etchings exhibited in venues like the Pavilion Gallery and Arts Club of Chicago. Recent works include paper pulp collages featured in the 2018 Americas Paperworks Competition.
Key collaborations include creating a fashion collection for Robin Richman Boutique and designing costumes for the University of Chicago's Reynolds Theater production of Oedipus Rex. Her creative research spans material experimentation with encaustic techniques and meditative explorations of mourning through sculpture and mixed media.
