Louis Martin is a Senior Lecturer at Staffordshire University's School of Health, Education, Policing and Sciences, within the Law School department. He transitioned from a 27-year policing career (Derbyshire Constabulary, 1984–2011) to academia, specializing in teaching Criminal Law, Criminal Justice, and Environmental Criminology. His expertise spans homicide investigation, detective training, and Criminal Justice System reform. He leads the BA(Hons) Criminal Justice and Offender Management program.
Academically, Martin holds a BSc (Hons) in Social Science (Open University, 2011), MA Education (Distinction, Staffordshire University, 2015), and Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (2013). He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and received a Teaching Excellence Fellowship (2017) for promoting academic English in employability.
Research interests include the Criminal Justice System, miscarriages of justice, legal theory, and language of law. He contributed to a 2016 publication with D. Tapp. His leadership roles include Course Leader for BA(Hons) Criminal Justice and completion of the LFHE’s Diversifying Academic Leadership program.
Awards highlight his teaching impact and commitment to academic standards. He maintains membership in the Society of Legal Scholars, Socio-Legal Studies Association, and Philosophy of Education Society (PESGB).
