Associate Professor Lorna Hallahan is affiliated with Flinders University in the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work. She holds a PhD from Flinders University and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Queensland (1982). Her career includes leadership roles as Head of Flinders Social Work (2014–2019), President of the Australian Council of Heads of Schools of Social Work, and Chair of the Flinders Social and Behavioural Research Ethics Committee. She has been a Senior Research Advisor to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (2019–2020).
Her research focuses on ethical practice in social work, disability policy analysis, child protection, and innovative service frameworks. Key areas include the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) evaluation, adoption law reform, and ethical challenges in complex human services. She contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and reduced inequalities.
Lorna serves on multiple boards including the SA Premier's Women's Council, NHMRC Research and Advisory Committee on COVID-19, and Relationships Australia SA. Her work emphasizes intersectionality between policy, practice, and lived experience.
Her recent publications analyze pandemic impacts on disabled populations, inclusive research methodologies, and moral philosophy in social work education. Supervision focuses on ethics in social work practice and refugee-related case studies.
