Professor Edward Mah is a Professor of Surgery at Flinders University's College of Medicine and Public Health. He holds leadership roles as Director of North Adelaide Specialist Centre and Calvary Orthopaedic & Hand Care Centre. Previously, he served as Head of Orthopaedics & Trauma Service at Lyell McEwin Hospital and Head of Hand & Upper Limb Service at TQEH. He is a Past President of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association (APOA) and Inaugural President of the Asia Pacific Hand & Upper Limb Society.
Education: BM, BS (Flinders University); MD (Research, Flinders University); FRACS (Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons); FAOrthA (Fellow of the Australasian Orthopaedic Association). He completed training in Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Hand/Microsurgery at the Kleinert Institute in the USA.
Research Interests: Focus on surgical innovation, including cell salvage techniques in arthroplasty, social orthopaedics, gender/cultural diversity in surgical training, and improving healthcare access. Active in medical education, surgical training programs across Asia-Pacific, and advocacy for public health.
- Awards: Public Service Medal (2020), AMA(SA) Award (2019), Honorary Fellowships from EFORT and APOA.
- Grants/Awards: Over 20 awards including scholarships, innovation grants, and international recognition for surgical contributions.
Leadership: Chairs Medical Advisory Committees for Adelaide Day Surgery and the IMA Selection Committee (SA Government). Former Board Member of ReturntoWork SA and Past Chairman of SA Hand Surgery Society. Advocates for fellowship exchanges between Australia, India, ASEAN, and Turkey.
Labs/Teams: Leads orthopaedic service expansions at Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN), improving care for 25% of SA's population. Involved in multidisciplinary teams for orthogeriatrics and allied health collaborations.
