Dr Kathy Boschen is a casual academic in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Flinders University, contributing to research at the interface of disability services and end-of-life care. Her work addresses policy barriers for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants with psychosocial disabilities facing life-limiting diagnoses.
Her academic qualifications include:
- Doctor of Philosophy, College of Medicine and Public Health, Flinders University (2024)
- Bachelor of Psychological Science
- Diploma of Public Safety (Policing)
- Master of Social Work (Paused)
Dr Boschen's research focuses on structural and policy-based challenges in cross-sector collaboration between disability and palliative care systems. She advocates for equitable access to supports and person-centered policy development for individuals with psychosocial disabilities and life-limiting conditions, drawing on her interdisciplinary background in psychology, policing, and social work.
Her scholarly output, including a 2024 doctoral thesis and a 2022 scoping review, reveals a consistent theme: the urgent need for integrated health and disability services. These works identify systemic gaps in the NDIS and palliative care interface, highlighting opportunities for policy reform to improve care continuity and equity.
She received the Police Minister's Excellence in Communication Award (2010). Currently, Dr Boschen applies her expertise in the NDIS Health Interface Team at the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, developing sustainable policy solutions for people with complex health and disability needs.
