Associate Professor Kim Devery is a leading academic in palliative care at Flinders University, affiliated with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences and the Research Centre for Palliative Care, Death and Dying. She holds a BSocSc (Hons) from UNSW and has extensive clinical experience across Africa, the USA, the UK, and Australia. Her primary focus is improving end-of-life care quality through education and research.
Devery leads the national End-of-Life Essentials project, a free evidence-based education initiative funded since 2015 to enhance healthcare professionals' skills in acute hospital settings. Her research explores palliative care delivery challenges, disability care needs, and healthcare team dynamics. She has secured over $3.1 million in grants for projects like Rapid Review of Best Practice Principles for End-of-Life Care and Education on End-of-Life Care in Acute Hospitals.
Her awards include the Australian Award for University Teaching (Team) and the 2024 Flinders CNHS Teaching Excellence Award. She advises national bodies like the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care and contributes to policy development. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing equitable healthcare access and quality of life improvements.
