Loren J. Samons II is a Professor of Classical Studies at Boston University and currently serves as Executive Director and Founder of the IHCLA, as well as Chief Academic Advisor at The American College of Greece (ACG). He holds a Ph.D. in Ancient History from Brown University and a B.A. in History and Classics from Baylor University. His career spans over 30 years as a scholar, teacher, and administrator, with a focus on ancient Greece, Athenian democracy, imperialism, and finance.
Samons has lectured globally at institutions such as Oxford University, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Pennsylvania. He has delivered prestigious lectures including the Christopher Roberts Lecture (2013), Harry Carroll Lecture (2016), and the 40th George Bancroft Memorial Lecture (2020). His research explores the relevance of ancient Greek culture to modern society, with current studies on Homer, Athens, and the historical poetry of C.P. Cavafy.
At ACG, he spearheads strategic initiatives to enhance Greece’s economic and social impact through education and research, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and policy development.
