Metaxia Papageorgiou is an Assistant Professor in Archaeology at Deree – The American College of Greece. She holds affiliations with Classical Studies and the Institute for Hellenic Heritage (IHCLA). Her research focuses on interdisciplinary studies of Roman vitreous materials and ancient medicinal compounds, emphasizing production, circulation, and socio-cultural contexts. Papageorgiou has secured grants from the A.G. Leventis Foundation, Hellenic Ministry of Education, and Hellenic Ministry of Investment.
She collaborates with leading institutions including the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, N.C.S.R. 'Demokritos', and the National Hellenic Research Foundation. Her field experience includes excavations at the Athenian Agora and Akrotiri, Thera. She has served as a teaching assistant at the University of Peloponnese, organized international symposia, and contributed editorial work to the Mediterranean Archaeology and Archaeometry Journal and the Digital Encyclopaedia of the Hellenic World.
Her research integrates archaeometry, materials science, and historical analysis to investigate glass technology, organic compounds, and cultural heritage preservation. Since 2018, she serves on the Board of the Hellenic Society for Archaeometry, advancing interdisciplinary archaeometric research.
