Dr. Loraleigh Keashly is a Professor in the Department of Communication and Wayne State University Distinguished Service Professor. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Social Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan (1988), with prior degrees from the University of New Brunswick (M.A., 1983) and the University of Calgary (B.A., 1979). Her research focuses on workplace conflict, aggression, and bullying, emphasizing organizational structures and cultures in both general and academic contexts.

Dr. Keashly’s work explores the intersection of interpersonal relationships and organizational climates, with recent projects addressing civility in academia and bystander efficacy in bullying scenarios. She has published over 50 articles and book chapters, including contributions to the Encyclopedia of Heroism Studies and the De Gruyter Handbook of Organizational Conflict Management. Her research spans topics like cyberbullying, bullying in seniors’ communities, and bullying in U.S. higher education.
As a consultant and expert witness, Dr. Keashly advises organizations on workplace bullying and hostility. She co-developed the Workplace Stress and Aggression Project and advocates for systemic solutions to foster respectful academic environments. Her teaching includes courses on Negotiation Theory, Neutral Intervention, and Communication and Conflict.
