Dr. Linda Hargreaves is an Emerita Reader in the Faculty of Education at the University of Cambridge. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Durham University, a PGCE (Distinction) from Durham, an MA in Psychology of Education (Distinction) from Leicester University, and a PhD from Leicester University on context-based assessment of study skills at the primary level.
Her research focuses on primary classroom processes, including teacher-pupil interactions, collaborative group work, effects of transition on students, rural school education, and children’s personal epistemologies. She has led or contributed to major projects such as the Cambridge Primary Review, the SPeCTRM project on primary mathematics groupwork, and the ERASMUS+ SEAs4ALL initiative. Her work emphasizes dialogic pedagogy, student voice, and the role of rural communities in education.
Key publications include transformative studies on student attitudes, rural schooling dynamics, and interactive teaching strategies. She has served as an external examiner at multiple UK universities and maintains editorial roles in journals like the Cambridge Journal of Education and International Journal of Educational Psychology.
Her contributions span academic leadership, policy influence, and international collaborations, particularly in Europe and Asia. Post-retirement, she continues work with the University of Barcelona’s CREA network to advance equitable educational practices globally.
