Lincoln S. Ashida serves as a Lecturer in the Administration of Justice Department within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, while concurrently holding the position of Director at Torkildson Katz, A Law Corporation. His professional background includes 14 years as Hawaii County's Corporation Counsel (2000-2014) – the longest tenure in county history – where he represented the Mayor, County Council, and various departments, and prior service as a deputy prosecuting attorney handling high-profile homicide and sex crimes cases.
He earned a Juris Doctor from Creighton University School of Law (1987) and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Michigan (1984), with subsequent admissions to the Hawaii State Bar, U.S. District Court for Hawaii, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court. His research and teaching interests encompass Criminal Justice, Public Law, Employment Law, Business Law, Government Litigation, and Legal Ethics, drawing directly from his extensive courtroom and municipal legal experience.
Mr. Ashida has received significant professional recognition including the Hawaii State Bar Association's C. Frederick Schutte Award (2009) for outstanding contribution to the legal profession and the Government Lawyer's Section Pro Bono Service Award (2010). His community engagement spans multiple organizations: the Access to Justice Commission Initiatives Committee, Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, Japanese and Portuguese Chambers of Commerce, Hawaii County Bar Association (past president), and Boy Scouts of America. At UH Hilo, he contributes as an instructor while also judging high school mock trials and speaking at community forums on legal topics.
