Liam Barrett is a BGS/Dunhill Medical Trust Doctoral Fellow and DPhil Student in Medical Sciences at the University of Oxford. He is affiliated with the Curry Group, investigating endothelial regulation of haemostasis in health and disease. His clinical background includes roles as an NIHR Academic Foundation Programme (AFP) trainee and NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow (ACF) in Emergency Medicine at the University of Cambridge.
Dr. Barrett holds an MBChB from the University of Birmingham, a BSc (Hons) in Urgent and Emergency Care, and a PG Cert in Leadership and Management in Healthcare. His research focuses on aging, blood thinners, and their effects on bleeding/clotting responses in older adults with traumatic injuries like hip fractures. He aims to improve outcomes for elderly trauma patients, a group he identifies as underrepresented in trauma research.
His fellowship funding supports his doctoral work. He is passionate about expanding emergency medicine research and encourages collaboration. His long-term goal is to lead a clinical academic research team in this field.
