Li Bennich-Björkman is a Professor of Political Science at Uppsala University, where she has held the prestigious Johan Skytte Professorship since 2008. She currently serves as Head of the Department of Political Science and has been a central figure in research on post-communist political development. Her work bridges academic excellence and international collaboration, particularly with Estonia through the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies.

- Political Culture in the Baltic States and Ukraine
Her recent monograph Behind and Beyond the Iron Curtain (2022) explores divergent paths of development in the Baltics and Ukraine after Soviet collapse. She has also published on Estonian political culture in diaspora and transition-era cultural roots.

Since 2009, she has served on the committee for the Johan Skytte Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in political science.
