Letitia Meynell is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Dalhousie University, cross-appointed with the Gender and Women’s Studies department. Her research focuses on philosophy of science, epistemology, feminist philosophy, and the ethics of scientific practices. She explores the epistemology of visual tools like thought experiments and images in science, feminist critiques of biological theories, and the ethical implications of human-animal interactions. Her work increasingly addresses nonhuman animal cognition and the Gaia hypothesis through collaborations with the Evolutionary Gaia Group.
Her teaching includes courses on philosophy of biology, general philosophy of science, and ethics in science. She also teaches the philosophy of sex and love. Meynell contributes to interdisciplinary debates via Impact Ethics, addressing topics like vaccine distribution ethics and assisted dying policies. Her research bridges philosophical analysis with practical ethics, emphasizing critical engagement with scientific methodologies and societal impacts.
