Dr. Leslie Eastman is a Senior Lecturer at RMIT University's School of AUD, specializing in visual art and practice-based creative research. He previously held a 20-year position as a lecturer at Monash University's Department of Fine Art. His work focuses on phenomenology of perception, site-specific installations, and the interplay between physical and psychological space. Eastman’s installations often use light, mirrors, and architectural elements to explore human sensory experience and the boundaries between internal and external environments.
Education: Completed Fine Art (Painting) at RMIT in the 1990s. Influenced by philosophy and psychology, his practice emphasizes collaborative interdisciplinary approaches.
Research & Exhibitions: Key projects include The Illuminated Field (2016), Heliotrope (2017), and Air Light Form (2018). His work interrogates perception through ephemeral, site-responsive installations and has been exhibited internationally. Collaborations with artists like Andy Thomson and Natasha Johns-Messenger highlight his commitment to collective creative practice.
Supervision & Projects: Currently supervising five PhD students. Active in projects such as workintranslucent: Through the occupancy of encounters (2024), exploring spatial installations and perceptual boundaries.
